I’m not much for religious media most days, but last night I was blown away by the performance at the Appleton PAC! The opening preamble featured Isaac Helgestad on guitar shredding his ever loving life away and some of the greatest stage lighting I have seen in many years. The singing from Jack Hopewell and Elvie Ellis was mind blowing too. From the standard range to a falsetto that Painkiller era Rob Halford would have been impressed with.
The stage setting has definitely been modernized. The main setting point was a cross that doubled as a stage for the soloing singer. Like many plays in the last few years the setting didn’t change between scenes, rather the lighting and the actors clothes would change.
Was I super familiar with the story? I mean I did go to Catholic school for a little while, so yes? Was this more exciting than any church service I’ve been too? Oh hell yes! It’s a bummer the run here is over because that was rad AF!
