Shane Told and Silverstein have been rocking and evolving for over twenty years now. I asked him what it’s like looking back on that and he said this.
“When we got signed and people would say to us, “Hey man, has it hit you yet? You’re a rock star!” and I was like ahhh I don’t think it hit me yet and the truth is it never did hit me…I’m the same guy I was, we’re the same people with the same goals and same love for the music that we had you know 19 years ago when that album (When Broken Is Easily Fixed) came out. So we’re still enjoying it and still pushing ourselves harder and harder with every album to make it better than the last one and it’s a great feeling that we’re making probably our best music all these years later.”
In this interview I get a little fan boy-y over the fact I’ve been a fan since they came out in the US. One of my favorite memories is driving through the Badlands with my brother right before college and one of the only CD’s we agreed on listening to was Silverstein’s second album Discovering The Waterfront.
Shane and I hit it off well and he even gave me a little insight into the writing of ‘Ultraviolet’ the song that we are currently spinning on Razor. He said it was co-written by the guys in Wage War and that they did some research into electroshock therapy in order to make the song sound cool, but they found this out which kind of damped the impact of the song.
‘So we looked up how many volts electroshock therapy is. Figured it’s gotta be a lot, right? And we looked it up and it was like 12. (laughs) And we’re like “12? I can’t sing 12 volts! So I’m like 50,000 how about that, that sounds like a lot!”
