Eva Under Fire vocalist, and licensed outpatient psychotherapist Eva Marie sat down with us for Mental Health Awareness Month. Eva has been writing mental health related articles for the media outlet Loudwire spreading the word on different forms of mental illness and what is accompanied with them.
Eva offered a unique view from that of a therapist on mental illness, as this is her passion when she is night singing her heart out onstage with Eva Under Fire. She touched on one of the best things that can be done during fits of anxiety and stress.
“I think we live in a very fast-paced world which I think is anxiety provoking in and of itself. So I always tell people just as a general rule, and this has been really helpful for me too, slow everything way down. I mean how you speak, how you walk, slow it down. Take thew time that you need if you’re not feeling on that day. I would say reflect as well. See where this is coming from. If you can pinpoint it? Great. If not? Try not to focus on the fact that this doesn’t really have a trigger for you.”
Eva also talked about accepting the feelings that are being felt, and not to brush them off.
“Honor that emotion too. People don’t appreciate feeling bad, they don’t like to feel bad. So we always try and escape the bad feeling and just avoid it. Shove it in a corner like it’s gonna go away. It doesn’t. You know those emotions are there for a reason, and they’re important too.”
Thank you to Eva for sharing a unique perspective when it comes to fighting a mental battle. Check out the full interview below.
