Back in April, Parkway Drive announced that they were going to be cancelling their upcoming North American tour following their UK tour. The band cited burnout, saying in a statement that their “collective limit had been reached.” Rumors began to fly as to whether or not the Australian metalcore artists were calling it quits for good. Yesterday (May 23), Parkway Drive took to social media to put those rumors to rest.
In a statement on their Facebook page, the band cited that if they were to continue touring without taking a mental break, they may cause further damage to themselves and ultimately break up the band.
“As touring started back up, we found ourselves at a crossroads. Continue down the same path, risk more damage and more than likely destroy the band and ourselves, or take the time needed to do the work on ourselves and heal. We are doing the work and know that ultimately, this was the correct choice.”
The band concluded their statement with a reassuring message to fans.
“For the record, we are here to stay.”
The full statement is available below.
While fans will not get to see Parkway Drive for some time, there is comfort in knowing that they are not gone for good. Re-live the experience of seeing them live with this professionally shot video of the group performing “Wild Eyes” at Wacken Open Air in 2019.
