It’s always interesting to talk to bands that have been in the industry for a long time. How many times can someone ask “How’s tour?” without going insane? I tried to get him to talk a little more candidly about the process that went into writing their latest album ‘Requiem’. Something that took me by surprise was that everyone in the band brings in riff ideas.
‘…sometimes I’ll write enough to hum a melody…but with Korn, Munk and Head are so full of so many riffs….they have their stuff together and we each do our own thing…’
He went on to say that they give each other feed back on the riffs and give each other ideas on how to put songs together. Even Jonathon Davis throws riff ideas out.
‘Jon will sit down at my drum kit and say ‘Hey Ray Ray that groove is cool why don’t you try something like this?’ and he’s a drummer first and foremost you know…’
All in all it sounds like an incredibly positive expereince writing albums together for the band. He gave a cryptic statement when talking about writing saying that ‘Reginald’ brings in some good ideas as well. Reginald is the real name of Feildy, founding member and bassist, who has been absent from the band for a few months. From that it could be assumed he helped write the album but with his personal issues he has not been on the road with the band.
