When you cannot perform due to an illness, make sure you have plenty of talented friends to back you up.
Yesterday afternoon (4/19), Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe announced that due to a positive COVID-19 test and symptoms, he would not be able to perform that night. The band was scheduled to perform in Grand Rapids, Michigan with Megadeth, Trivium, and In Flames as part of The Metal Tour Of The Year. Luckily, some very talented vocalists stepped up to the plate.
Lamb Of God announced on social media later that evening that Mark Hunter from Chimaira would be filling in for the night as the show must go on. While Hunter would indeed fill in on a few songs, Matt Heafy of Trivium as well as Anders Fridén of In Flames would also take over vocals for a few tracks. I guess it pays to go on the road with other talented musicians ready to step in on such short notice.
Fan-shot videos of the concert capture the replacement vocalists doing a phenomenal job taking over for Randy. Below is Trivium’s Matt Heavy adding an unusual dose of clean vocals to “512”.
Mark Hunter of Chimaira steps up to the plate and sounds great! Awesome to see him back on the stage again.
Anders Fridén of In Flames steps up and CRUSHES on “Resurrection Man”!
It is unknown when Randy will return to the stage. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 this past weekend and the band has said they hope to have him back later on this week. The Metal Tour Of The Year is set to come through the Resch Center in Green Bay this Friday (4/22) so I guess we’ll have to see who we get!
