Talking to anyone in the band Slipknot is always a trip. Last time I talked to someone in the band it was Clown and he told my friend and I that he would steal the couches out of the venue because he had an ‘Artist Pass’. It was a weird day.
Jay Weinberg was far from the oddball Clown was and that made for a very interesting conversation. I asked what it was like filling the seat that was helmed by the late and legendary Joey Jordinson. He had nothing but love and respect for him but continued with this.
“…the trick there is to not pay attention to that at all…when I first joined it was very important and became very clear that this band is full throttle into the future….Here’s the deal you’re gonna join the band and you just be you…because anything else is illegitimate”
An amazing conversation also included asking about how they continue to be inspired to keep making Slipknot music.
“Not to sound like a jerk but all of us…are such avid art and music consumers… that I think it’s safe to say we have good taste…we know what’s good and what sucks and we have no problem telling each other ‘hey that guitar riff sucks’ or ‘that drum fill sucked’…”
This was definitely an eye opening conversation and also the most Slipknot interview we could have had. Check it out!
