It has been five years since Shaman’s Harvest released a new album. That is a long, long time. We chatted about what they were up to in the time off, mostly having kids and living life with their families. I asked what positive did they get from the five year hiatus. Nate, the lead singer, said this.
“We all really needed a break to realize how much we like playing….And to get creative again.”
Nate continued describing the album as a mixture of all you see in America. He talks about going through towns that feel like ghosts of their past selves, ravaged by the perils of industry leaving for distant lands and the crushing weight the opioid crisis has had on once thriving towns. There are also love songs and big guitar solos.
Continuing the concept of towns that are shells of their previous self and asked if they have seen that happen in bands and rock music as a whole.
“I don’t see a lot of intent…in music…which is a shame you know (because) rock n roll was founded…it is the most pure form of raw passion there is…”
“We’re all to blame for the watering down of rock n roll…we’re the ones accountable for making it mean something as well…that’s the uplifting message.”
