The state Supreme Court upholds the conviction of a Green Bay man that murdered a woman.
George Burch had tried to argue that police violated his constitutional rights by tracking information from his cellphone without a proper warrant. Burch was found guilty of killing Nicole VanderHeyden and dumping her body in a farm field in May of 2016. Data from Burch’s cellphone placed him at the bar where VanderHeyden was last seen, her home, and the field where her body was found.
The state Supreme Court upheld the initial ruling by a Brown County judge to allow that evidence to be used at trial on a 4-3 decision.
