Rage Against the Machine are no strangers to fighting social injustices and talking about change. They once again prove it by letting the film collective The Ummah Chroma a new short documentary called ‘Killing in Thy Name.’ That’s of course a play on legendary song “Killing in the Name Of” which is used as the springboard for this film. The film is about a school teacher trying to educate a small group of students about where the seeds of race and inequality were actually laid. In an archival interview Rage Against the Machine singer Zach De la Rocha said:
“Living in the [United] States, you’re living in one of the most brutal societies in the history of the world. The country who inherited the genocide of the Native American people. A country which participated in slavery. Any society or any government or any system that is set up solely to profit a wealthy class while the majority of the people toil and suffer and sell their labor power, so long as that system’s only true motive is profit interest and not the maintenance and the betterment of the population, to meeting human needs, then that society should not stand. It should be challenged and questioned and overthrown.”
It’s only 15 minutes long and well worth the watch.
