The band System of a Down have sold over 20 million records and became one of the most popular bands in rock between 1998 and 2006. The band and especially frontman Serj Tankian have been very outspoken politically and their attempts in raising awareness for the Armenian genocide. Even recently the band returned to the studio for the first time in 15 years to put out two new songs about the current insurrection happening between Armenia and Turkey.
Now comes the documentary “Truth to Power” about Serj and his band System of a Down and their quest. The movie will be released on February 19th in select theaters and virtually. A description for the documentary reads as follows:
Set to the propulsions of an original soundtrack composed by Serj, his critically acclaimed solo work, as well as the iconic music of System Of A Down, TRUTH TO POWER is also an artist portrait with a revealing look at the musician as he writes music—from inception to recording—and pursues ambitions outside of the band. It includes memories from legendary producer Rick Rubin on System Of A Down’s early years and its unlikely breakthrough, the bandmates’ candid insights about the splinters and highpoints for the group, and stories from Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello on his bond with Serj as social justice advocates and their “Axis of Justice” nonprofit.
