A special all virtual edition of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be airing Saturday on HBO. Nine Inch Nails’ debut album The Pretty Hate Machine was released in 1989 which made them eligible to the hall of fame in 2014. This is the year that Trent Reznor and company get in. To honor their and all the other inductees, Amazon Music has brought together various musicians to record new versions of some these artist’s must famous songs. For Nine Inch Nails you have St. Vincent covering the song “Piggy” and here’s what she had to say about it.
[“Piggy”] remains one of my favorite Nails songs to this day.… I am obsessed with the slinky tambourine that is just a little lazy in feel. And when I took this song apart to cover it, it took me a long time to really understand the immensity of the groove. It’s a dark, industrial reggae. Muscular, but never as distorted as you imagined it when you think of it in your head…. They made a complicated thing seem easy and made big, bold sonic choices.”
You also have Jehnny Beth doing “Closer”
Dave Grohl kicks off the show with a heartfelt introduction to this year’s class of inductees, and the special guests will speak further on how the 2020 Inductees impacted their personal and professional careers. Iggy Pop will be inducting Nine Inch Nails.
Plus on Friday you can join Trent Reznor for a conversation hosted by David Farriar at 9am. The live stream will take place on Nine Inch Nails’ Twitter, YouTube and Facebook pages.
