The statewide capacity limits took effect today, and Majority Republicans in the Legislature want to hold a rules hearing on the order.
The order from Governor Evers and the Department of Health Services sets capacities at 25 percent for buildings that are open to the public.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Sen. Steve Nass of Whitewater don’t think it’s enforceable, without the approval of the Legislature. They sent a letter to department officials about the plans for the hearing.
The governor’s office believes Evers has the authority to issue the order, because the guidelines they used weren’t impacted by the state Supreme Court’s ruling on the “safer at home” order.
