Shinedown has now donated $250,000 to the humanitarian aid organization Direct Relief. This comes after they presented the first installment check of $230,000 from their “Atlas Falls” COVID-19 fundraiser. The check follows the $20,000 that Shinedown donated back in March to kick off the campaign. So far, the fundraiser has raised over $300,000.
“Atlas Falls” was originally written in 2013, but was available for the first time in March as part of an exclusive song and t-shirt bundle the band set up to start a COVID-19 fundraiser for Direct Relief, one of the largest providers of humanitarian medical resources in the world. Their mission is to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergency situations by mobilizing and providing essential medical resources needed for their care. The t-shirt from the campaign is still available and can be purchased here, with all the proceeds going to the charity.
The song was officially released as a single in May, and can be heard below. Shinedown said that for “Atlas Falls”, they drew inspiration from the Greek myth of the titan Atlas who carries the world on his shoulders. The song offers a reminder that if Atlas falls, we need to hold each other up during the difficult times and stand together.
