According to multiple sources, Marvel has found its Ms. Marvel. The studio added newcomer Iman Vellani to star in its Disney+ series based on the comic-book character. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon have been announced as directors on the series.
If you are unfamilar with Ms. Marvel, Iman Vellani will be playing Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teen based in New Jersey. Ms. Marvel was the first Muslim character to star in her own title for Marvel and made her first appearance in 2014. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige said the the character won’t just be regulated to television, she will also be part of future Marvel movies. Of course, that isn’t the only news to come from Marvel/Disney+. A couple weeks ago they announce that Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) will star as their She-Hulk and they added that they are giving Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury character his own series.
WandaVision will be the first Marvel show to premiere on the on Disney Plus this year. They released a new promo for the show in September, which can be seen below. WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olson and Paul Bettany as Wanda/Scarlet Witch and Vision, respectively.
The synopsis on YouTube reads:
“Welcome to WandaVision. Coming soon to Disney+. Marvel Studios’ captivating new series “WandaVision” stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, and marks the first series from Marvel Studios streaming exclusively on Disney+. The series is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.”
