Leaders at the largest hospitals in the Fox Cities say it’s hard to tell how sick every person will get after catching coronavirus.
Dr. Tom Nichols is the vice president of medical affairs at Ascension’s St. Elizabeth Campus in Appleton, and he says the challenge is that many people will only have mild symptoms or none at all. He says they can’t predict the people who are going to be severely affected, and may even die from the virus.
Dr. Jennifer Frank is the chief medical officer at ThedaCare, and she believes it’s hard to answer because universal testing isn’t being done. She says they don’t have enough information on how many people caught COVID-19, but didn’t have any symptoms, or just mild ones, and were never diagnosed.
