There have been teasers out there that the season two trailer for The Umbrella Academy would come out soon and it was finally released today. The untitled track that plays in the trailer appears to be from My Chemical Romance frontman’s Gerard Way. Way and Gabriel Ba created the comic book that the series is based off of.
Earlier this week, the Instagram page for The Umbrella Academy teased a 60’s theme for the upcoming season of the show and a shot of Gerard Way singing the song used in the trailer. Now it looks like the dysfunctional heroes brought the apocalypse with them to the past. The second season premieres on Netflix on July 31st.
If you are unfamiliar with The Umbrella Academy, the first season is available now on Netflix and has already been viewed by over 45 million households. The show starts with 43 superhuman infants that are born on the same day to mothers who didn’t show any signs of pregnancy beforehand. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, an inventor and philanthropist, adopts seven of the kids and they are raised to be superheroes at The Umbrella Academy. Hargreeves only cared about results, so kids grow up in a dysfunctional family and end up as psychologically damaged heroes. Netflix description of season one:
“Reunited by their father’s death, estranged siblings with extraordinary powers uncover shocking family secrets — and a looming threat to humanity.”
