Hollywood writer, director, producer, actor, and comedy legend Carl Reiner has died at the age of 98 of natural causes. According to Reiner’s assistant, he died Monday night at his home in Beverly Hills.
He first gained stardom from Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows where he won Emmys in 1956 and 1957. He met Mel Brooks at this time as well and continued to have a long running comedy partnership and friendship. They were known for their “2000 Year Old Man” sketches.
Reiner was the creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show, which earned him five of his nine Emmy awards. He is also known for directing Oh God starring George Burns, The Jerk with Steve Martin (below), and All of Me with Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin.
Carl Reiner stayed active in Hollywood his entire life appearing in TV shows and like Two And A Half Men and Hot in Cleveland and movies like the Oceans Eleven series and recently voiced a role in the Toy Story 4 film.
A few days before his death, Reiner tweeted reflecting on his family and life.
