Careless use of smoking materials is being blamed for a Green Bay house fire.
Crews were called to the home on the east side, in the 1400 block of Emilie Street around 11:45 p.m. They found flames coming from the back of the house. Battalion Chief Drew Spielman says fire spread to the basement and the first and second floors of the home, but they were able to contain it to the rear of the building. He estimates damage at $80,000. Spielman says the home has extensive smoke damage. The family is staying with relatives.
