Back in April, Lars Ulrich said if the band’s self-isolation continued that there’s a “very good chance” that Metallica will write an album in quarantine.
Well it appears that is starting to happen. Lars recently sat down with Swedish talk show host Fredrik Skavlan and discussed the band’s activities.
Lars said that Metallica has a weekly Zoom meeting:
“We get together once a week on Zoom for a couple of hours and catch up. The good thing about that catching up is we really just talk about how we’re doing and we don’t sit and talk about Metallica for hours and hours. But now that we’ve started exchanging some ideas, it’s great. It’s nice to be in touch, it’s nice to be part again of that group, and I look forward to the creative opportunities that lie ahead of us.
“So far, at least the sonic side of it and the practical elements are in surprisingly good shape, actually. So now we’ve just gotta figure out how much we can create without being in the same space.”
Metallica has been busy during their quarantine. In March, they’ve started a “Metallica Mondays” concert series, recently they released their Blackened Whiskey Batch 100, James Hetfield made a couple tables for charity, and they created a “best song” bracket.
Metallica also took the time to release an acoustic version of “Blackened”, which can be seen below, and Lars recently revealed details on the upcoming S&M 2 box set that will be coming out in August.
