The head of the Wisconsin National Guard says they’ll continue to help with the coronavirus pandemic, as long as they’re needed.
Adjunct General Paul Knapp says right now, soldiers are under federal orders until June 24th. He says Governor Evers and other governors around the country are asking the federal government to extend that date to July 31st.
Knapp says they’re willing and ready to stay on as long as they’re needed, whether it’s under state active duty or another type of order.
The state has more than 1,400 guard members on active duty for the COVID-19 response. Many are divided into teams to collect tests. They’re doing that at community sites, and targeted facilities.
