The head of an addiction treatment center says alcohol and drug overdoses are on the rise during the pandemic.
Michelle Devine-Giese of Apricity says they’re getting ready for a surge in patients. She thinks people use different coping mechanisms, and she’s not surprised more people are drinking at home, alone. She believes being at home with family is shining a light on people with a drinking problem.
Devine-Giese says they’re working on how to safely bring back clients, and deal with the waiting list they already have. She says people who are early on in the recovery process are struggling, because they’ve lost their connection to others.
She’s also not surprised to see state tax collections for beer, liquor, and wine jumped for March.
