The head of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation says the plan to provide direct payments to farmers is “very, very welcome news.”
Governor Evers wants to use $50 million to help farmers. They’ll have to apply through the state Department of Revenue, and the payments could start going out next month.
Group president Joe Bragger says he’s been assured it will be a very easy process. He says by no means would the money make farmers whole, but it would go a long way to helping them.
At the start of planting season, Bragger says it’s also absolutely vital that farmers get some money to bridge the gap.
Evers is also looking to give food pantries $15 million. Some of it would be used to buy products from the agriculture industry in Wisconsin.
Bragger also supports that idea.
