Governor Evers believes the state could spend nearly $1.2 billion to fight coronavirus this year.
The money is coming from the federal stimulus package. Some of it has already been spent, and the total amount is what’s currently available through the rest of the year.
About $260 million will go toward testing. The state has a goal of running 85,000 tests a week, and they would be free.
Around $75 million will be used for contact tracing. Local public health departments will get $50 million of that to add staff.
Evers expects to spend $150 million on personal protective equipment, and $40 million to get ventilators.
About $445 million would be available to ensure hospitals and communities are prepared for a possible surge of patients over the summer and fall.
