Killswitch Engage have released a video special for fans… a live acoustic version of “We Carry On.” The video begins with an introduction from guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, explaining that they had planned on performing this song during their Spring tour with August Burns Red and Light the Tour. Killswitch were only able to perform a few shows in early March before the entire tour was postponed due to COVID-19.
Jesse Leach said of the song:
“This song is a deep one for me. When I wrote the lyrics, it was originally based off of struggles in a tumultuous, abusive relationship. Little did I know how significant it would eventually be as it has relevance during this strange time of quarantine and uncertainty. For me, it has turned into an anthem, of sorts, about perseverance. While working on this version, it really struck me how much I felt the lyrics in a different light. As dark and difficult as things can get, we all have this inner power to persevere and pull through. I feel that the desperation and the melancholy of this song are balanced by a ray of hope that runs through it all.”
No word yet on when Killswitch Engage will reschedule those tour dates. In the meantime, you can still support Killswitch Engage by purchasing KE Gear from their merch store. They’ve even created KE-branded face masks with all profits from sales being donated to NIVA (National Independent Venue Association). The organization is working to “secure financial support to preserve the national ecosystem of independent venues and promoters.”
