Hospitals around northeast Wisconsin postponed many routine surgeries, but a doctor says other patients stayed away when they shouldn’t have.
Dr. John Leschke is an anesthesiologist at Ascension’s Mercy Campus, and he says they had cases where people should’ve been treated in the emergency room, or urgent care, sooner.
He says clinics saw the same problem, with patients with serious chronic diseases deciding not to receive routine treatments for their conditions. Leschke is concerned their health could be in worse shape when they return.
He took part in a virtual town hall with the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce.
