The fate of the state’s “safer at home” order is now in the hands of the state Supreme Court.
Justices heard arguments yesterday, in a lawsuit filed by Majority Republicans in the Legislature.
They don’t believe Governor Evers and the state Department of Health Services have the authority to extend the rules until May 26th.
Assistant Attorney General Colin Roth argues there’s a reason GOP lawmakers want six days to come up with a plan, if the extension is blocked. He says “people will die” if there’s nothing to replace the order.
GOP Attorney Ryan Walsh thinks the order might be the “most sweeping regulation” in state history. He believes the Legislature should be involved with the plan.
Conservatives have a 5-2 majority on the high court.
