The state’s moratorium on evictions will run for at least a couple more weeks.
Landlords can’t kick people out for not paying their rent while the ban is in place.
Administrator Lara Sutherlin of the state’s consumer protection agency says renters still owe that money, and landlords can collect once the moratorium is now longer in place. That could include going to court.
The ban is on the books until at least April 24th. The state’s “safer at home” order is currently supposed to end after that day. Depending on the coronavirus outlook in Wisconsin, Governor Evers could decide to extend it.
The state did make some exceptions to the eviction moratorium, including if there are safety reasons.
