Like all of the others around the state, the race for Appleton mayor is on standby.
Jim Clemons and Jake Woodford want to be the next leader of the city.
Woodford believes the wait for results is just another adjustment, after having to campaign during a pandemic. He says they’re prepared to connect with people over the next week, while they wait for the result.
Woodford is a special assistant to the president at Lawrence University.
Clemons was on the city council for 20 years until 20 13.
Clemons compared the delay to having your first child, and then the doctor telling you to wait until next week to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl. He says it’s a little frustrating, but every candidate is in the same situation.
The last time the city elected a new mayor, it took several months to get the final results. After a court fight, Mayor Tim Hanna took office in November of 1996.
Hanna went on to spend 24 years in office, becoming the longest-serving mayor in Appleton history.
