State government is in a better position to deal with a recession than the last time, 13 years ago.
Wisconsin Policy Forum Research Director Jason Stein says the money in the rainy day fund could cover about a 10 percent reduction in revenues. The total was one percent in 2007. He believes that’s progress, but he says the state is still in the middle of the pack, nationally, for the amount of money set aside.
Stein says there’s more than $2 billion in the state’s unemployment fund. That’s about 2-1/2 times the amount from 2007.
