In what he calls a necessary action to “slow the spread” of the Covid-19 viral pandemic, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers today announced that statewide order to shutdown all but “essential” civilian travel and businesses goes into effect tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8 am. and will remain in effect until April 24th unless conditions warrant and earlier end.
Under the direction of the Department of Health Services, citizens will only be allowed to travel for the following purposes:
Perform tasks essential to maintain health and safety, such as obtaining medicine or seeing a doctor
Get necessary services or supplies for themselves or their family or household members, such as getting food and supplies, pet food and supplies necessary for staying at home;
Care for a family member in another household; and
Care for older adults, minors, dependents, people with disabilities or other vulnerable persons.
Evers said individuals are expected to comply with the rule but no “special permission” is needed to perform necessary travel. “Individuals do not need special permission to leave their homes, but they must comply with this order as to when it is permissible to leave home,” the order states.” Similarly, if a business is an Essential Business or Operation as defined in this order, it “does not need documentation or certification to continue its work that is done in compliance with this order.”
The governor’s order includes an extensive list of businesses and employees which are excluded from the travel ban which includes restaurants capable of serving food for take-out or delivery.
