Wisconsin-based Kohl’s says it will close all of its stores in the US, more than 1100 in all, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company announced this morning that all stores will close at 7 pm tonight and will remain closed until at least April 1st.
“We all find ourselves in extraordinary circumstances, coming together to ensure the health and safety of our families, neighbors and communities as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to escalate,” the company said in a press release. “The health and safety of our associates and customers is our top priority.”
Kohl’s says it will provide “two calendar weeks of pay’ to employees but did not comment on any further worker compensation if the closures last longer.
Kohl’s joins several other large department store chains in closing stores such as Macy’s, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s.
