Local governments around the Fox Valley are taking steps because of coronavirus.
Appleton and Outagamie County are among the communities with a state of emergency in place. The City of Oshkosh is closing all city buildings to the public, starting today.
Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna says the emergency declaration will help ensure city departments will work together and respond.
He says they want to be proactive, and that’s one reason they closed the downtown library. Hanna is calling the move “an extraordinary measure.” He says with schools closing because of COVID-19, they didn’t want large groups of students congregating there instead.
More police departments in the Fox Valley are changing their procedures for how they handle certain calls. They’re trying to limit the exposure officers could have to the virus.
