Oshkosh and Winnebago County officials continue to butt heads over a new flood plain map.
The city is pushing for a new one that the DNR approved. It would designate some rural areas along Sawyer Creek, and to the west, as “flood storage” areas. That could limit potential land uses.
A number of county board members have been critical of the map, arguing that the city should do more to deal with stormwater runoff.
City Utilities Manager Steve Goede says that’s not the answer. City officials say it would be impossible to build a storm sewer system large enough to handle potential flooding.
Winnebago County could be at risk for losing its eligibility for the Federal Flood Insurance program, if the new map is not approved.
