The Fond du Lac Fire Department is changing the foam it uses to fight fires.
Asst. Chief Erick Gerritson says they found out the type they’ve have contains PFAS, a chemical that’s linked to cancer. They’re getting a more environmentally friendly foam.
Gerritson says there are concerns about firefighters being exposed to PFAs, while they’re on the scene of a fire.
PFAS are at the heart of a lawsuit against Johnson Controls for the contamination of ground water, near one of their plants in Marinette.
The Fond du Lac Fire Department should have the new “green” foam by next week.
