Oshkosh West High School students lined a street yesterday to honor a school police officer wounded on the job.
Officer Michael Wissink was released from ThedaCare’s Neenah hospital, less than a week after he was stabbed by a student in his office. A police motorcade to Wissink’s house passed the school.
Superintendent Vickie Cartwright says they wanted to show how much they appreciate his heroism. She says students, parents, and community members took part.
Police officers from around northeast Wisconsin were at the hospital to cheer for Wissink when he walked out of the doors. It will be some time before he returns to active duty.
Police say after he was stabbed, Wissink shot the 16-year-old student.
