Halestorm have released an in-studio, live acoustic performance of their song “Chemicals” which was released as a special vinyl track for Record Store Day in April. The song was one that the band originally wrote for Vicious but decided to leave it off the album.
“It was a fun song to do. We did it in the studio. It didn’t end up on the album Vicious but it’s kind of caught fire live and so we’ve been doing it live and this is the first time we’ll be doing it acoustic this way.”
The song was written about mental health and mental illness. In an interview with Kerrang! Magazine from April of this year, Lzzy said:
“Me, my brother and members of our family have had our issues with mental illness, and to be honest, I think everybody does. Everyone doubts themselves sometimes, it’s just more intense for some people than others. The more we can put it out there, the better people will feel. People from every walk of life, including famous rockstars, are affected by mental illness. Fame, money or acting like it doesn’t exist won’t fix the problem – it’s by talking about these feelings that people will get help.”
When “Chemicals” was first released earlier this year, Lzzy said of the song:
“Our Song “Chemicals” was written in homage to those we’ve lost and all of us struggling with mental illness. In this song I dip into the personal insanity that goes on inside your head. Because sometimes you feel like you are drowning in the whisperings of your own mind, like you are the Only One at war with your impending darkness. But really, we are all in this together. We are all battling one day at a time. We, The fighters… We are the majority. So I made the chorus an anthem, an epiphany that we are all the same, and most everyone you meet has been touched by mental illness. Let’s lift each other up. Raise Your Horns!”
