Oshkosh firefighters are making the rounds this week, putting smoke detectors in homes.
Spokesman John Holland says every year, they find about 10 to 15 percent of them don’t have working detectors. He says the No. 1 cause of fires in the city can be tied to aging homes.
The department hands out smoke detectors every year through the Detector Trek program. This year, crews are focusing on neighborhoods in the southwest section of Oshkosh.
