Fond du Lac’s fire chief is calling the deaths of three people in a house fire a “dark day” for the community.
The victims had cognitive disabilities, and they were on the second floor of the home.
Chief Peter O’Leary says it’s an “awful tragedy” and firefighters take it personally when people are killed in a fire.
Investigators believe the fire started in the front porch area yesterday morning, and it spread quickly. They’re trying to pinpoint the cause.
The house is in the 600 block of S. Military Road. Two people were able to escape.
A caretaker would stop at the home throughout the week, but she didn’t live there.
