The mayor of Seattle Jenny Durkan, has declared August 22nd to be “Layne Staley” Day.
August 22nd marks the original Alice In Chains vocalists birthday. Staley, who also fronted the band Mad Season with Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, is recognized as one of the most powerful and influential voices to emerge out of the grunge era.
Sadly, Staley passed away from a drug overdose on April 5th, 2002. After his passing, his parents set up the Layne Staley Memorial Fund. The goal of the fund is to help residents in Seattle who struggle with heroin addiction.
