Hellyeah are set to release the album Welcome Home on September 27th. This is the last record to feature the late Vinnie Paul on drums as he passed away a few days after he’d recorded his drum tracks.
The band is set to release a series of videos talking about the making of the upcoming album. The first video features frontman Chad Gray discussing the album’s title track, “Welcome Home.”
In an interview that Cutter conducted with Chad Gray a few weeks back about the upcoming album, Chad discussed what Vinnie taught them.
“If Vinnie taught us one thing, it was how to carry the torch for someone. Ya know we learned that very early for Dime and it was Vinnie’s passion, and it became a HellYeah passion to carry the torch and we’re excited to do it for both of them now.”
Chad also discussed what happened when he got the news and discussed how he had to get re-inspired to work on the album:
“Vinnie just became my muse. He became my fire, he became my light, he became my strength. I thought about it and I talked to Kevin (Churko) about it too going through that and I’m like ‘the weight that I’m carrying right now feels so incredibly heavy.’ Ya know, just overwhelming the amount of pressure that you’re under. And I just looked at him and was like ‘but I know it should be heavier. I know it should be more which lets me know that he (Vinnie) was taking some weight off me but leaving enough on me to keep me focused. Ya know he wasn’t gonna make it easy. (laughs) Ya know but, um he wasn’t gonna make it easy by any means because you don’t want that. You want it to be tough, you want it to be emotional. The load I was shouldering was over the top. But yeah, I had to go back in and write 6 songs after he died.”
Along with the album’s title track, HellYeah have also released two other tracks from the upcoming album. One titled “333” and the other is called “Oh My God.” Both tracks can be viewed below.
