Motionless In White are set to release Disguise on June 7th. On Wednesday, MIT played the Green Bay Distillery on Wednesday (4/24) and Cutter and Kaytie sat down with frontman Chris Motionless to discuss the new album, album artwork, the battles of life and more.
The band’s new single “Brand New Numb” was not the single that the band wanted to release first:
“It’s so funny with that song because, I mean, I’m gonna be open about it as much as possible. We didn’t want to put that one out first. That was a battle with the label and we were just like bad idea. We didn’t think that the fans would wanna back that one right away. We thought, ‘okay if it comes out with the album then they’ll enjoy it a little bit more but not as like a single. I guess I just don’t know our fans anymore because they seem to enjoy it and I’m so happy that we were proven wrong. I’m also happy that in all those conversations we put out a heavier one to kind of contrast at the same time. But ‘Brand New Numb’ definitely is a shocker to me. I just did not expect fans to react to it positively.”
When asked about the theme of the record, Chris said:
“The most common thread across the record is kind of just, um kind of letting people into different things that I’ve been experiencing in my life, ya know for a very long time, but more specifically within the past 2 years. There’s a been a lot of just things that have gone on behind the scenes in my head or in my personal life outside of the band, and then even within the band, that I don’t usually talk about or bring up. I usually will use lyrics to write about those kinds of things. I don’t think anything that fans are gonna hear will be completely new to them as far as who I am or what I experience, but it’s way more open heart surgery like you get everything. And you get… the deepest brain surgery I can give to fans to really give them some insight as to what I’ve been going through the past 2 years.”
Motionless In White are set to release Disguise on June 7th and are currently on tour with Atreyu and Wilson.
