Korn have filed suit against former drummer David Silveria, claiming that he’s violated an agreement they made three years ago. Silveria left the band in 2006 and it took until 2016 and various lawsuits between the two to come to an agreement. Silveria eventually gave up his rights to Korn royalties going forward in exchange for a lump sum.
This new suit claims that Silveria contacted SoundExchange, which handles royalties from “non-interactive streaming recordings,” in July 2018 and said he was entitled to a cut. The band told Silveria this violated the agreement and he had to withdraw his claim. Silveria apparently hasn’t done that, so SoundExchange placed a hold on paying Korn. The band’s suit says they’ve lost out on $290,000 in payments so far. They’re suing for breach of contract and want to bar Silveria from attempting to collecting any royalties.
