Billy Corgan and company celebrated The Smashing Pumpkin’s 30th Anniversary on Thursday (August 2nd) in New Jersey and decided to have a party with some friends, on stage.
First Chino Moreno of The Deftones got on stage and performed the Pumpkin’s songs “Bodies” and “Snail”
After members of The Killers came up for “Cherub Rock” and “1979” The most bizarre thing of the night happened. Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray got on stage and they did Sugar Ray’s “Fly” followed by a cover of Judas Priest’s “Breaking The Law.” What’s his connection to the Pumpkins? Apparently he helped with some of the visuals for the tour.
Then Billy’s ex-girlfriend and the widow of Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love got on stage and they performed 2 Hole songs that Bill Corgan had co-written, “Celebrity Skin’ and “Malibu.” She stayed and helped out on the Pumpkin’s most well known hard rock song “Bullet With Butterfly Wings.”
The final guest of the evening was Peter Hook from Joy Division and New Order whose son Jack Bates is the Pumpkin’s touring bassist.
