Last August, Chris Cornell’s wife commissioned the city of Seattle to erect a statue in Chris’ honor. She hired Wayne Toth to create the statue which at the time was expected to take 7 months. Today, on what would have been Chris’ 54th birthday, Vicky Cornell announced that the statue has been completed and is set to be erected on August 29th at Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture.
According to Vicky, the statue is a “life-size bronze statue of Chris Cornell in his signature boots, dog tag and long locks.” She told the Associated Press that it is her family’s gift to “the tight-knit community that gave him his start.”
There is still no word from Soundgarden on what the band plans to do moving forward. Soundgarden was in the middle of a tour and working on their 7th studio album when Chris passed away.
