Lamb of God drummer and life-long Vinnie Paul acolyte Chris Adler appeared on the Talk is Jericho podcast that honored the life and legacy of Vinnie Paul this past July 4th.
On that episode, Chris recalled how Vinnie asked him his thoughts concerning a reunion of the almighty Pantera. Pantera broke up in 2003, following tensions between brothers Dimebag and Vinnie and their vocalist Phillip Anselmo, stemming from Phil’s ever-increasing drug addiction. Dime and Vinnie went on to form Damageplan, before Dime was tragically murdered during a set in Columbus, Ohio in 2004.
Ever since, the fans have begged Vinnie to look past his problems with Phil and get the band back together. Most of these fans would like to see legendary guitarist and friend of Dime, Zakk Wylde, on stage with founding members of Pantera Phil, Vinnie and bassist Rex Brown.
When asked by Vinnie whether or not it should happen, Chris Adler had this to say to Chris Jericho:
“I spoke with him at length about that, not that my opinion mattered whatsoever, but I encouraged him, ‘Please don’t. It’s not right. As much as I love Zakk, or whoever else might be able to do it, and I know the fans want that, and I know there is this concept of, ‘Do it for the fans. Do it for the songs. Celebrate this,’ it’s celebrated by the fact that it’s over. It’s celebrated by the fact that we all remember it well, with the appropriate pieces to the puzzle.”
Needless to say, any hope of a reunion of Pantera passed with Vinnie Paul on June 22nd of this year.
